Finally went the summer of 1996...😑 First there is nothing "Country" about it, it's Yonkers NY. It was just your average carnival, only it was held at Yonkers Race Way. It was pretty bootleg but I was happy to finally see what all the hype was about. I had a cool time, plus weather was beautiful that day.

Hi Steve. I was playing along even before your first choice ... I really liked the Strokes' 'Angles' too. I remember playing it loads when it came out. It's been very frustrating being a fan of the band. They never built up any momentum, taking long breaks between releases and sometimes releasing substandard material. Have you got any of Albert Hammond Jr.'s solo material? I saw him live in a small club and was very impressed. I was a little star-struck! ... My first X album was 'Ain't Love Grand' and I wondered what all the fuss was about. As you say, the problem was the producer ... I thought you might have shown the Clash's 'Cut The Crap'. I'd also include Public Image Ltd's 'The Flowers Of Romance'.

hey carl great to hear from ya. the only albert hammond jr album i have is yours to keep which i like a lot. not sure why ive never picked up any of his others. agree with all ya said about the strokes. they really have had an unusual career. i think they made some decisions because of all that hype around them in beginning that they were gonna “save rock n roll.” i really don’t think that sat well with the band. ya know i have never owned or listened to Cut the Crap. It is so infamously regarded as terrible i just took everyone’s word for it. oh also thats awesome ya got to see albert hammond hr in the small club. nothing like those shows. hope summer’s treatin’ ya well dude!

I love this concept. I might have to put something like this together. To be fair, I am a Weezer fan, so half the albums are disappointments, a handful are classics, and the remaining sliver are the "just average". I still haven't been fully disappointed by The Strokes - if anything, I find First Impressions of Earth uneven and bloated.

Hi Steve - Its always a disappointment when a favorite puts out something not just mediocre but awful ! In 2008 both The Cure & Oasis put out unforgivably bad records. In the 90's many acts tried ( & failed ) to stay relevant like Billy Idol , INXS , Human League , ABC & both Van Halen & Genesis resorting to new vocalists ! The time comes for many where they should live by touring & merchandise & not lose fans by putting out subpar material.

trivia time: i owned the 45 for harlem shuffle back in 1986. but i think i bought it more for the artwork than the song. probably never listened to the b-side. not that it would’ve made any difference in their career cause the book’s been written so to say but i wonder if the 2019 WHO album had come out instead of Endless Wire how people would’ve reacted to it. I feel literally the same way about each album You have all the same CD releases I have (tho I'm missing Suits Anyone and Sparks). Both versions of Jennie Bomb, both of Cmon Lets Pretend I have compiled all the songs from the different releases into an uber Jennie Bomb release with a great track order The japanese version of Kiss and Tell is essential , those two bonus tracks make the album! Their later stuff has its charm and I'm still a fan but I like the spunky stuff

Greetings, Steve. I have "el zippo" of the John Hughes soundtracks...but if you check out my cd collection on Discogs, you'll see I probably have 50% of the songs on various discs. I do have all his films on disc, my favorite being "Sixteen Candles," though "The Breakfast Club" was the most memorable in my life. Hughes brought that film to USC for a preview screening, with Q&A, when I was a cinema grad student. At the end of evening, Hughes was engulfed by a couple hundred undergrads, all telling him that he was "the only one who understands them." Hughes was trapped, my friend, the lead TA, looked at me and mouthed the word "Help." Since I was built like a middle linebacker back then and most of the cinema students knew me from their "Intro. to Cinema" class, I pushed my way though, grabbed Hughes' arm and announced in my deepest baritone voice "Clear the way, Mr. Hughes needs to leave now." Charlton Heston would have been proud of my parting of the coed sea. I got him out of the theater, the studio publicists came running up to him and I went back into the theater to get my then-girlfriend and go home. Needless to say, the water cooler chat on Friday was abuzz with "Did you hear what Karl did last night?"

I can't believe this was your first episode. It was real smooth and the post production was fantastic, like you've been doing it for years. I'm sure it helps that you're in the film business. Still looking for Agent Orange on the cheap, not easy. I'm curious, did you shoot this video in Wayne's World's basement?

I own 5 movies that John Hughes directed (Sixteen Candles, Weird Science, Ferris Bueller, The Breakfast Club and Planes, Trains and Automobiles. I also own 4 that he wrote, like the first 3 Vacation movies and Home Alone. Sixteen Candles and The Breakfast Club are probably two of the best soundtracks from what he’s worked on, but most of these have at least a theme song that’s memorable, like Holiday Road from Lindsey Buckingham from Vacation.

Breakfast Club soundtrack? Really? I don’t know outside of the Simple Minds song I didn’t like it that much. Lotta instrumental stuff. Pretty in Pink for me is easily best soundtrack.

@@STEVEHEROLD yeah, you’re probably right about The Breakfast Club, but Wang Chung has a song on the soundtrack. A lot of memorable songs, like Oingo Biongo for the Weird Science theme. I actually don’t own any of these soundtracks.

I also have Sixteen Candles. Planes Trains and Automobiles and Weird Science on vinyl, The Great Outdoors on CD, and Career Opportunities, which is a great soundtrack. I love Some Kind of Wonderful. At the time, I had a crush on Mary Stuart Masterson's character. Dutch has a great unreleased soundtrack, and the box set is worth picking up. And yeah, the vinyl for She's Having a Baby had HE and SHE as side A and B. I also have the Ferris Bueller's Day Off soundtrack that was released by La-La-Land. I dunno, I love all those movies, some more than others, but still. He also had a pretty good soundtrack for Reach the Rock, his most obscure film. The music was from bands on his son's Hefty Records label. Post-Rock bands like Tortoise, The Sea and The Cake and Polvo.

Reach the Rock. There’s something no one ever talks about. I may pick up the box set someday. I do remember being a little bummed the Annie Golden tune from 16 Candles wasn’t on it.

I've seen all the John Hughes films except Some Kind Of Wonderful. The Breakfast Club is my favorite of his but the soundtrack of Pretty In Pink is definitely the best. If my memory is correct, Molly Ringwald played John Hughes Pretty In Pink for him and said that he should use that song in the film. She was a huge Psychedelic Furs fan I believe.

Hi Steve - Ferris had a cool Cabaret Voltaire poster for Microphonies but their music wasn't played in the film. Agree that Pretty In Pink is the best soundtrack & it attracted many to the excellent Psychedelic Furs Talk Talk Talk album. Simpleminds best albums were before The Breakfast Club. Sons & Fascination & New Gold Dream my favorites.
